A Gondola Ride in Venice? That’s Amore!

The first time I went to Venice, Italy, I didn’t take a gondola ride. It seemed like a rip-off, and we took a private water taxi on the Grand Canal instead. Actually, we had needed to in order to make it to our destination on time.
But when I returned to Venice years later, I had a change of heart and absolutely had to take a gondola ride. I hated leaving Italy that first time and telling others about my trip, and not being able to say I had been in a real gondola in Venice. It’s like saying you went to Paris and didn’t go to the Eiffel Tower.
It was absolutely worth it. How could anyone not love the slow, relaxing cruise along the Grand Canal, floating under the famous bridges, seeing all of the unique Venetian architecture, going down the side canals…something very different than our daily lives back home. I felt like I was in a movie…like I was James Bond in an exotic locale, about to partake in a mission. However, my mission wasn’t going to be dangerous...My mission was to just decide which of the fantastic restaurants we’d eat in next!
