Why You Should Always Be Nice to Elephants

There's a saying that elephants remember everything. I had never given that saying much thought or wondered where that belief originated from. On a safari trip in Botswana, my safari guide told us something that instantly made me believe that saying completely and without any doubt.
Apparently, elephants will often pay their respects to dead elephants, and will go so far as to frequently visit the skeletal bones of dead elephants that lie along the ground in the African wilderness.
But what was truly incredible to learn was that elephants can even recognize if a dead elephant is a relative. They can even discern that from just the bones. How could that be possible? But it is, and it shows how nature works in truly amazing ways.
And you might, therefore, want to always think twice before treating an elephant (or any animal) in a negative way. It may remember what you did and hold a grudge. Luckily, all I ever did to elephants was take their picture (and maybe say hello as we passed them in our jeep).
